Emi (恵美) is a character from the Onibi series.

She is described as being the Protagonist of Onibi, as in the song "Onibi," not the series in itself since the Onibi series is a fan-given name.

Appearance[]

Contrary to popular belief, Emi has only one design; the design appears in the remix of Kitsune no Yomeiri PV.

Emi has shoulder-length blue purple hair, vermillion eyes, and pale skin. She wears a pastel purple kimono with a deep magenta obi and sashes.

The person she is commonly confused with is the blue-haired Miku in Onibi. However, these characters are not the same person, as confirmed by Masa [1]. Something to note about them is that Masa mentioned that they do look similar.

Background[]

There is not much official/canon information on Emi just yet, except the fact that she is a dollmaker, but there may be more on her when Masa updates his blog or the manga.

What we know is that she is despised by everyone around her. For some reason, her ancestors incurred the wrath of the gods, and she lives as a goddess of ill health. Unjust accusations against her triggered a deep-seated anger, leading her to resent and deny everything. Subsequently, Shikyou appeared before her.

Also, it should be noted that Emi is given the title "千手観音," (senju kannon), meaning "The Thousand-Armed Kannon," and as stated by Shishikusas on their Tumblr blog,

"...Senju Kannon is one of the more beloved Buddhist deities in Japan. Portrayed as a girl, Kannon is the goddess of mercy whose sole drive was to allow souls to escape from the cycle of suffering. but as she saved people, she realized countless others needed saving too, and she got so sad her head split into pieces. Amida Buddha, her master, gave her 11 heads to witness the world’s suffering and a thousand arms, each with an eye, to relieve said suffering. so that is her duty to make sure all sentient beings escaped the cycle of suffering indeed."

Relationships[]

Akari Oborodzuka[]

They don't seem to like each other very much; the reason why is unknown. In Emi's presence, Akari's hair is bright red, indicating that she is furious and is using her powers at the moment.

The usage of her powers is shown by Emi stabbing her right eye with her nails, whereas Emi is smiling, clearly not intimidated by Akari.

Shikyou, the Amanojaku[]

The state of their relationship is unknown, but they can possibly be incorporated as allies, as Shikyou appeared before Emi when she was upset.

Or they could possibly be frenemies, taking a dislike to each other. The reason why is unknown.

Theories[]

  • There is a common theory that she is the reason why Akari and Mai met, probably by arranging a meeting between them at a specific location, even though they were both doomed to never meet.
  • There is another theory that she arranged the meeting between Akari and Mai to screw over Akari's deal with Shikyou and ruin their plans, which might explain Akari's angered look, presumaby directed at Emi, in the ADULT version of Kitsune no Yomeiri.
  • When Emi stabs her right eye with her nails as a result of Akari's powers, she is shown smiling, not in pain or intimidated by Akari one bit; this could be because Emi believes that Akari can't kill her in fear of Shikyou.

Trivia[]

Conceptualization and Origin[]

  • Her name, Emi, means "blessing," "wise," "kind," or "fortunate," and "beauty."

Curiosities[]

  • Emi is the third character, with the others being Toki-san and Sachiko, to not have a known last name.
  • Some fans claimed that Masa stated that Emi is no longer part of the Onibi series's canon; however, there isn't any evidence found to back up this claim.
  • In all of Emi's instances, she is only shown smiling.
  • While Emi isn't represented by any specific VOCALOID, she mainly appears with GUMI vocals; this earned her the name "Purple GUMI."
  • Many people confused her with the Miku that appeared in the song "Onibi", however, Masa has confirmed that they're separate people, but he mentioned that they do look similar.
