"Come now, welcome to the beast's dwelling."
The Spider and the Fox-like Lion is a VOCALOID song released by Masa on August 18th, 2011, on his Niconico Douga account and on November 24th, 2011, on his YouTube channel.
It is the third released song in the Onibi series and the first chronologically within the story.
Background[]
Origins[]
The song was released on both Masa's Niconico Douga account on August 18th, garnering over 6.500+ Niconico views, and on November 24th, 2011, with 79.000+ views on his YouTube channel.
It is considered one of Masa's gruesome songs, being known in the community for both the horror and gore genres alike.
The song was later privated and deleted at an unknown date (presumably before 2015) by Masa on all platforms because of its extreme content and original treatment of being a "missing number."[1]
Plot[]
The first song chronologically in the Onibi series, featuring Ryou Shishikusa, the wife of the Shishikusa Clan representative, and Akari Oborodzuka, a member of the Kitsune Clan who possesses the ability to make people harm themselves.
Akari is kidnapped and handed over to the Shishikusa Clan, which runs a theater where they torture women in front of daimyos to entertain them for money.
Ryou Shishikusa then uses a demon blade that she earned many years ago, rendering Akari's powers useless, and stabs her in her abdomen, killing her. Before Akari dies, she gets her revenge by cursing Ryou's bloodline with a curse that would heavily turn them into violent cannibals.
Controversy[]
After the song got popularized by the "SEGA trend" at the end of 2022, a user by the name of "CristianMirror" uploaded the song onto Spotify, this being done without Masa's knowledge or consent.
After this, the uploader went on to gain profit out of the song, with it getting over 1 million monthly listeners in the app, earning them 1 million yen (approximately equivalent to 7,000 in USD).
This led Masa to acknowledge the situation on Twitter and go on a copyright rampage across YouTube, striking those who re-uploaded his songs (specifically from the Onibi series) without permission. Some channels, such as "Despair Media," ended up getting deleted, with the channel owner pleading with Masa to remove the strikes and let them get their channel back for the personal videos they had on it. Not only were re-uploads struck, but covers and fanmade instrumentals/off vocals were targeted, too.
What CristianMirror ended up facing was getting doxxed on Twitter, with Masa encouraging his followers to locate where their school is, as to get them expelled from it. Since CristianMirror was a minor, Masa received a lot of backlash, leading him to delete most of his tweets and release vent art, but Masa later clarified that he only meant to get the school's location so that CristianMirror would feel threatened and delete the Spotify upload.
It is unclear whether or not CristianMirror complied with Masa's request since the upload of the song is still up.
